This is the privacy statement of the 15 August 1945 National Commemoration Foundation, set up in 1980 with the objective of organising the annual commemoration on 15th August at the Indisch Monument in the Hague. During this commemoration, we mark the anniversary of the capitulation of Japan and the end of the Second World War for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and we commemorate all the victims of the Japanese occupation.
We attach great value to the protection of your privacy and the security of your details. We process your details, as do other parties we engage, in compliance with the Dutch Protection of Personal Data Act (Wbp) and since 25 May 2018 with the new AVG, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

On what grounds and for what purpose do we process your personal details?
The use of your personal details has to be compatible with one of the legal bases. Under the law it is not only permitted to process your personal details to fulfill a task in the public interest, but also when you have given us permission to process your details, or if it is necessary to process the details because we have a legitimate interest.
Is the processing of your details automated?
No. Automated processing of personal details means that decisions are taken by computer programs or systems without human intervention. We do not do this.
Do we share your personal details with third parties?
We do not sell your details.
We share your details with third parties only if it is necessary to enable us to carry out our work, to fulfill a task in the public interest, when it is required legally, or we deem it legitimate to enable us to satisfy a legal request/process or to protect our rights. To ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your personal details, we enter into a processors’ agreement with businesses or institutions we contract to process your details. In this situation, we remain responsible for the processing carried out by processors we have engaged.
How long do we retain your details?
We do not retain your details longer than strictly necessary. When we no longer need your details, they are deleted and/or shredded.
How are your details kept confidential and secure?
We take seriously the protection of your details and have implemented organisational and technical measures against misuse, loss, unauthorised access, undesired public disclosure and unauthorised changes. Nevertheless, if you find that your details are not (sufficiently) well-protected or there are signs of abuse, please contact us using the details provided above.
What are your rights?
We will respond to your request as quickly as possible but in any event within four weeks.
